KDE 即 K Desktop Environment 的简称，它是现今 Linux 和 Unix 平台上最为流行的桌面环境之一。KDE 4 是 KDE 桌面环境的下一代版本。值得所有 KDE 用户为之庆贺的是，KDE 4 的首个稳定版本 4.0.0 在今天正式发布了。

KDE 4 不仅带来了一系列新的技术，包括 Solid、Phonon、Decibel 等，而且具有全新的桌面外观，如桌面外壳 Plasma、外观界面 Oxygen。同时，KDE 4 也引入了一些新的应用程序，像文件管理器 Dolphin、文档查看器 Okular、桌面地球仪 Marble、图片查看器 Gwenview，等等。另外，一些 KDE 程序在 KDE 4 中得到了显著地增强，如窗口管理器 KWin 获得了复合特性、对 Konsole 控制台进行了整修等。而更多的 KDE 程序或已移植到 KDE 4 平台 (如 Amarok 2、Ktorrent)，或正在向 KDE 4 平台移植。

    踩地雷了，KDE4的LiveCD不能用在k7 k8的机器上…… RC2还可以呢

    arch下已经有KDEMOD4了。 安kdemod4之前需要卸载所有有关kde,qt的文件。然后 把下面的内容添加到/etc/pacman.conf后pacman -Sy kdemod4即可拥有kdemod4 [testing]

    Include = /etc/pacman.d/testing

    # server = http://mirrors.lcuc.org.cn/archlinux/testing/os/i686 server = http://mirror.lupaworld.com/archlinux/testing/os/i686

    Include = /etc/pacman.d/testing

    之后把exec startkde写入.xinitrc文件下，即可用startx运行kdemod4!!

    现在的版本(4.0.0)还不支持用kdm登录kde4，故而只能用startkde
