Google 宣布 Chrome 操作系统

Google 刚刚宣布了一个新的项目──Google Chrome 操作系统。在 Google 的官方 Blog 中，Google 称，Google Chrome 操作系统是 Google Chrome 网络浏览器的自然延伸；并说它是一个初步定位于上网本的开源、轻量级操作系统。

    It's been an exciting nine months since we launched the Google Chrome browser. Already, over 30 million people use it regularly. We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we're announcing a new project that's a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It's our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.

    Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

    Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

    Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

    Google Chrome OS is a new project, separate from Android. Android was designed from the beginning to work across a variety of devices from phones to set-top boxes to netbooks. Google Chrome OS is being created for people who spend most of their time on the web, and is being designed to power computers ranging from small netbooks to full-size desktop systems. While there are areas where Google Chrome OS and Android overlap, we believe choice will drive innovation for the benefit of everyone, including Google.

    We hear a lot from our users and their message is clear — computers need to get better. People want to get to their email instantly, without wasting time waiting for their computers to boot and browsers to start up. They want their computers to always run as fast as when they first bought them. They want their data to be accessible to them wherever they are and not have to worry about losing their computer or forgetting to back up files. Even more importantly, they don't want to spend hours configuring their computers to work with every new piece of hardware, or have to worry about constant software updates. And any time our users have a better computing experience, Google benefits as well by having happier users who are more likely to spend time on the Internet.

    We have a lot of work to do, and we're definitely going to need a lot of help from the open source community to accomplish this vision. We're excited for what's to come and we hope you are too. Stay tuned for more updates in the fall and have a great summer.

    貌似周围很多Windows users对此表示震惊，其实看到Android就应该想到总有一天Google会出一个轻量级的基于Linux的OS，配以Chrome作为所谓的Clound computing的终端。Google有意重新定义桌面操作系统啊;-)

    比较好奇Chrome OS会基于哪个distro，多数会是Debian吧，或者和gOS一样基于Ubuntu，说到底还是Debian-LOL

    我觉得主要是Bing给逼的 以Google的实力至少早就可以“宣布”OS的计划，但好几次强调不会推出桌面OS，貌似一直想对MS保持某种微妙的平衡，但是MS最近对搜索投入的高调已经使Google无法忍受，所以。。。

    基于chrom，以后大量的第三方软件就是基于web的，既可以在g os上也可以在ff或者ie上，这样可以刺激不少programer为它编写程序，时间长了等人们已经熟悉了这样的操作方式，其他平台实现的又不如它好，不如它快，所以自然会用g os的，google在下一盘很大的棋啊，哈哈

    不是每个公司都有实力做一个操作系统的……光是硬件的基础支持就要了人的命……linux能有现在的发展是多少年多少linux kernel开发组的人的努力换来的。google站在这个牛人的肩膀是最省力的选择。但不可避免将与其他发行版有竞争了。

    说是的一个独立的图形界面,不知道是指x-window 系统还是仅仅是窗口管理系统. 如果是直接基于内核的图形系统应该有的搞.对于上网用户来说,快速的图形反应还是很重要. 虽然号称是google os,其实同vmware esx一样, 把内核乍一些剪裁来更适合自己的需要. 不过我个人还是很看好.希望能早日用上

    我觉得不会是基于发行版,可能连软件包管理系统都不会提供,对普通用户来说,可能是很简单的一个系统.开机就是桌面+chrome 浏览器;

    这个东西应该不会基于某发行版，系统前端如果只跑一个 Chrome 的话，根本用不着笨重的 Gnome，设置有可能不用 Xwindow，直接在 BuffeFrame 上做图形系统，在现有的发行版上做不会省啥力。

    @Dongsheng: 同意，基于现有的发行版确实不行。如果要做到快速启动，真正轻量级。还是要build from scrath，以Google的实力，不会有任何问题。

    虽然用过的发行版很少，但是要说轻量级应该也是有的吧？还有不是有手机OS：Android 吗？难道这个还不够轻量级吗？扩展一下Android 不是更简单吗？不过这几年Google和Mac一样给了我们许多颠覆传统的新东西，既然Google想要轻量级的。估计到时候会“非常轻”吧，总之还是很期待这个“轻”的东西的。早点来吧“轻”。

    LS Android就是google为掌上设备做的……并不适合上网本……

    chrome os是定位于上网本用的轻量级系统……

    非常怀念 BeOS, 被palm收购之后再也没有出现了。。。 按介绍看，Chrome OS 首先就干掉了X Windows系统，设计新的轻量级图形系统替代，或许以后 Linux 在桌面还有点希望（目前基于xwindows的方式，天天喊桌面，口号大于实用）。

    1、这年头，如果打开电脑，接不上网络，这个电脑基本上是死的。 2、如果打开电脑，仅仅只能接上网络，那么这个电脑太轻，你多少需要一些本地的、私人的、个性的应用。 3、如果一个系统小到很方便携带（包括硬件），很多东西有地方存储，很多应用可以方便地而且免费得到，并且这个系统（包括硬件）很容易操作，那么至少我没有理由拒绝。 4、基于什么都没有关系，关键是不要重复了某个操作系统，真正能精确创意。Goolge的风格多数比较贴近实用。用户是王道，用的人多才能有机会。

    “积累”这东西有好处当然也是有坏处的，在软件上就会变得越来越臃肿，确实是到了重新设计一款操作系统的时候了，就看谁能把握住这难得的机遇。想想看，10多年前的操作系统通过修修补补来实现一系列新的功能、适应新的硬件，滚雪球效应使得操作系统的资源消耗越来越大，上网本和掌上电脑肯定该有个更适应它们的操作系统的。

    說用Framebuffer的人很明顯是不了解現在Linux的桌面有多依賴X 不用X的Linux代表著用不了三維驅動更不用說硬件和軟件的支持. 我也是DFB的fans但做產品和做開源項目不一樣. 我是Google就會和Intel合作在Moblin的支持下打開一條第三方軟件的生態圈
