    个人觉得没什么区别，Ubuntu社区现在有时候也会帮Debian处理一些事情了，两者的关系也没那么紧张了，可能是发行周期的区别吧，个人觉得Debian更稳定

    最大的区别应该是 Debian 只包含GPL协议的软件，而Ubuntu则不是。

    @b1gm0use Debian 也包含半自由软件(contrib)和纯不自由软件(non-free)，你可能自觉不自觉的已经使用过了。发行周期和预装软件勉强能算区别，别的基本是胡扯了。

    Debian 也有 non-free repository , 但它预装的软件只包含GPL协议的,

    Ubuntu的每个版本都是由最新的Debian unstable改出来的 , 所以Ubuntu和Debian Unstable基本上相同,除了上述GPL协议的差异.

    @b1gm0use: 另外所谓只包含 "GPL" 的说法也大有问题，Linux 系统从来不是 GPL Only，其他开源程序也都包含，作为 Debian 基本系统的组成，可以到这里看看到底有多少协议被支持。 http://packages.debian.org/sid/i386/base-files/filelist

    对我而言： ubuntu的优点：官方默认做了很多美化方面的工作（比如字体、主题等）；第三方ppa很方便。 debian的优点：稳定、自由、滚动更新（指的是非stable版）

    所以综合起来，我还是用debian，因为debian美化方面，只需要做一次，相关配置保存下来就好。至于ppa，好吧，我自己下deb包安装。。。相比较起来，我还是更在意是否滚动更新。

    Debian 默认是用 sysvinit，虽然有消息说会切换到 upstart，但是现在还没有换。

    Debian 的 gdm 还是 2.20。Debian 的 GNOME 基本上是跟 GNOME 官方区别很小。

    1, debian并不是只包含自由软件 2, 自由软件并不都是GPL协议

    至于他俩之间的区别? 很大, ubuntu不过是一个用了dpkg, apt以及debian很多东西的发行版而已, 从定位到目标, 安装, 组织结构基本都不一样...

    如果是新手, 或者喜欢更方便更漂亮的选ubuntu; 老手, 喜欢操控性更强, 或者系统就是拿来用的选debian...

    @Ubuntu lover: 同学, glibc是lgpl的, man和xterm是bsd的...等等等等...main源里只是自由软件, 不是说只是gpl...

    Debian 浏览器默认是用 Iceweasel，不是 Firefox。

    另外准备出来的 Iceweasel 3.6 AMD64 有 JS 春药补丁。。。哈哈！

    恩，仓库分类不一样，debian 是 main、contrib 和 non-free

    Ubuntu 是 main、universal、multiverse 和 restricted。

    Debian 和 Ubuntu 都跳槽到 eglibc 了，呵呵，虽然包的名字没有改。

    debian 是传统的纯情少女，没有太多修饰，很传统，是作老婆的极佳选择，虽然传统、老实，许多东西需要调教才能慢慢好用，但是到最后，还是自己老婆最好，最适合自己的脾性。 Ubuntu 是韩国的性感美女，美丽，动人，很新潮，偶尔玩玩感觉是相当不错的，不需要调教，她已经把你服务的很好，但是经过整容的华丽外表之下，还是存在着许多不安定、蠢蠢欲动的因素，所以，只能作情人。

    楼上上，我不得不说，调不调得好，还是看个人的功力。其实Debian的软件更新比较慢，所以会更稳定，适合做Server类的应用。Ubuntu主要服务个人用户，所以软件都很新。满足大家尝鲜的味口。

    最重要的是Debian可以使用混合系统，可以同时添加unstable、testing、stable的源(ubuntu应该也可以，不过我想稳定性会很差)。Debian比ubuntu稳定很多，没有ppa（当然有其它第三方源）,没有ubuntu易用，ubuntu安装时装了桌面的话非常易用方便，用Debian的人都是搭积木，ubuntu有些Debian没有的图形化工具(当然这样的工具很少)。总之如果是服务器我一定选Debian,如果想搭积木也用Debian,如果不熟愁最好是先用ubuntu。 Debian是滚动更新，ubuntu半年出一次。testing更新比ubuntu快,testing的CLI稳定，ubuntu的gnome比较好，如果你要用少数人用的窗口管理器还是用Debian吧。Debian有unstable很新，ubuntu有ppa。

    debian的stable更新比较慢，但很稳定，很多服务器都用它。unstable更新比较快，相对来说也不是很稳定。

    ubuntu更像是一个用apt作为包管理器的红帽，很多配置文件都采用自己的方式管理，因此自己配置起来相对来说要比debian麻烦一些，另外半年一次的版本升级也是个问题。

    ubuntu采用debian的打包方式，因此也和debian一样打包过细，可能会导致很多人嫌麻烦，比如我。

    debian支持比较广泛的架构，主要面向服务器，所以debian的稳定版软件版本都比较落后，但 经过较多的测试。

    debian 的早期用户一定对sarge印象深刻，它跳票了两年多（当时的debian 领导人也因此被弹劾），ubuntu应运而生，它提出一个鲜明的口号就是有严格的发行周期。我用过woody，在sarge中泡了两年多，还没等到它发布，转到 ubuntu 4.10了（它除了一些外观的主题和桌面变化，和debian unstable看不出什么太大差别）。。。当然在一年后，我彻底统一了我的 linux（当时还安装了suse，rh9，相当怀念Ximian桌面），只用 Fedora，直到现在。

    想玩好非稳定版的 ubuntu 需要有更强的技术才行. debian sid 谁都可以用, 而 lucid alpha / beta 就不行. 只跟着大版本升级的话那就没什么了.

    Debian 是一个合格的滚动发行版 (rolling release distribution), ubuntu 这方面显然不及格. Arch 这方面还没有太多发言权. 如果你喜欢新软件, 用 Debian / Fedora / OpenSUSE, Arch / Gentoo 作为高级用户的候选.

    虽说 ubuntu 那么难用, 偶还是坚守在这里吧. selinux 是不选择 fedora 的一个重要理由. debian 不肯加入新特性, 说把它当"老婆"的同学还是把它当"老婆婆"吧.

    Weta Degital (制作魔戒和阿凡达特效的公司), 其35,000核的"渲染农场", 以及公司内用的desktop环境, 就是Ubuntu, 其他例如wiki, 以及Ars Technicia 本身也都是用Ubuntu的服务器.

    不过商业方面的应用，我觉得ub的最大优势在于有付费支持。

    这个我也不清楚呢，上游有的新特性，有 packager 更新的话，也会进入 unstable 或者 experimental 的啊。

    Debian sid 的软件看上去怎么都比 Ubuntu 的最新稳定版本新吧。

    Oracle没给ubuntu认证,根据先前的一篇报导,以后也不会有. 不过Dell和IBM都有给认证

    @liangsuilong: 高端数据库一直都是UNIX（AIX HP-UX）或者Enterprise Linux的天下（RHEL, OEL, SLES），甚至中日韩三国杂交出来的Asianix都被支持。至于Debian和Ubuntu，只看厂商愿不愿意给certificate一下了。

    Debian sid软件包更新的速度和大多数rolling release接近，不应该和Ubuntu release比较，而是应该和Ubuntu的development branch比。比未特性冻结的Ubuntu dev branch还要快。

    个人不喜欢用Debian当桌面，主要是Debian逼太"紧"。当然，拿来作LAMP服务器最合适不过。

    强烈反对拿情人比喻ubuntu，debian才是情人，用ubuntu肯定比debian的多，而且持续使用ubuntu的时间也长，难道现在大家都有情人，而且换老婆比换情人还快吗？那还真成了和谐社会

    如果 debian 是 Quake3，ubuntu 就是 CS 如果 debian 是 CS，ubuntu 就是 CF

    我是因为openrays才开始习惯debian 的包管理的，最早还是买的￥68 的Fedora Core 4，虽然很想重温一下FC，但又怕折腾。Ubuntu太会占内存了，像我这样很抠的人是不会用的。

    Ubuntu是基于Debian unstable开发的发布版本 Debian与其他发布版最大的不同是没有一个人或者公司在主导其发展，它的一切行动都是由开发者们根据“Debian 宪章”等纲领性文件决定。

    Debian有更多的硬件支持 ...
    我个人认为Debian是一个更加严谨保守的发行版 而ubuntu更加的注重新功能和用户体验

    还有Debian可以支持不止linux内核 是更通用的操作系统

    新特性是相对于 fedora / ubuntu 来说的, ubuntu 加特性的速度比 fedora 慢半拍, 但还算是快了. 比如 debian 不愿意用 upstart 作为 init. 类似的例子不想再举了.

    Windows 只能拿来当女王服侍，理由如下：

    1 她要专属仆人团（杀毒软件及各类优化云云），没有的话不超过12小时绝对挂掉。

    2 她想做什么就做什么，完全无视它人（糟糕的内存管理）。

    3 她有需要的时候（磁盘碎片整理等等），绝对要服从，否则必死。

    4 她会随着条件改善同步提高要求（硬件升级了她也跟着更吃资源了），永不满足。

    我是刚刚脱离win进入linux的人，开始试着安装Debian，发现一个人学习起来吃力，还是ubuntu好些，从桌面入手，吸引了更多的人使用linux的开源系统，然后你会发现自己在这样的一个环境下学习linux的只是也是很有必要的，而且更加的方便，当你十分纯熟的使用linux的服务的时候，linux的世界上任何一个系统都可以配置的很好，没什么太大的区别，只是预装上有些区别罢了

    个人觉得如果新手用Ubuntu吧，等一步步熟悉Linux系统后可以尝试一下其他Linux系统，毕竟Ubuntu很适合入门。

    天哪，这都什么比什么啊？观望Linux Mint 基于Debian的发行版，的确软件工具为主，主要用途是用，能满足正常的工作、生活和学习的需要，有些软件频繁更新浪费人的精力实在是不值得的，有些人时候我们真的要静下心来问自己拿到什么是自己真正最需要的，我相信debian能够满足我，尽管我还在ubuntu大流中。
